Second Batch of Information Staff of Parliament Builds Capacity on EIPM

The ability of policy-makers to ascertain the relevance and quality of information they are using to make policies are very important.
Good knowledge, therefore, in evidence-informed policy making enables policy-makers to ask relevant questions about research evidence available to support policies, demonstrate that they are using good information on which to base their decisions and ensure that outcomes are realistic, hence the need to increase the understanding of policy-makers on evidence-informed policy making.
It is in the light of this that the Ghana Information Network for Knowledge Sharing (GINKS), which is part of the VakaYiko consortium, continues to build the capacity of civil servants and information support staff of parliament of Ghana on evidence-informed policy making.
At a training workshop for the second batch of information support staff of parliament, the Deputy Clerk of Parliament, Alhaji Ibrahim Gombilla, said it was the aim of the Parliament to engage in continuous staff development to ensure that they are abreast with new trends in policy formulation.
He confirmed that good knowledge in evidence-based policy making would enhance the abilities of the staff to perform their task effectively in the parliamentary service.
Alhaji Gombilla encouraged the staff to pay attention to the various topics that they would be introduced to, assuring the participants that they would leave the training well equipped to lead the process of evidence-informed policy making in the various departments of parliament. He also urged the facilitators to blend theory with practical experience.
The Executive Secretary of GINKS, Ibrahim Inusah, said EIPM was critical for the staff of parliament because of their role in policy making process.
He encouraged the participants to contribute actively during discussing to enable them implement the action plans they would present to GINKS at the end of the training.
