Dr Omane Boamah said the government was pursuing some local content project that would offer an opportunity for ICT entrepreneurs, especially the youth and urged them to take advantage of the various opportunities thereof.

He said, for instance, that the government sought 40 per cent local participation in the $123million financing agreement between the government of Ghana and China Exim Bank to deliver a reliable,secure communications system to be executed by ZTE to the public sector.

The minister also mentioned another area of opportunity as the $97 million e-Transform project which was approved by the World Bank in October 2013 adding that the project had numerous opportunities for Ghana’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) entrepreneurs and engineers.

He said the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) would be rolled out in 2014 which also comes with numerous opportunities for ICT persons.

Dr Omane Boamah said the government was also working on the deployment of various Information Technology (IT) applications which include e-Payments, e-Procurement, e-Immigration, e-Parliament, e-Cabinet and e-Justice and these projects would offer ICT entrepreneurs the opportunities to engage in business as well as research and development.

“The government will remain committed to ensure that the capacity of its human resource is well developed and strengthened to meet the demands of a dynamic ICT ecosystem” he said.

He therefore encouraged the graduates to create new business ventures by adding value for users, customers, owners and the society.

The Director General of the Ghana – India Kofi Annan Centre, Ms Dorothy Gordon, said the graduating class had acquired knowledge and skills on Information Technology (IT) and as such could work anywhere they found themselves.

Ms Gordon said the centre would be introducing an online learning platform where people all over the world could benefit from the skills of the centre. GB
