Communications Minister COMMISSIONS ENHANCED CICs
The Minister for Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has commissioned and handed over an Enhanced Community Information Centre (E-CIC) to La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region under the e- governance project.
Two other CICs in the New Juabeng South and Ga South Municipalities in the Eastern and Greater Accra regions respectively were also handed over to the assemblies.
The e-governance project, according to the Minister, was to ensure that every community had access to ICT facilities across the country. He said government acknowledged the fact that not all Ghanaians could afford personal computers and that for those who could not have their own computers, the facility had been provided to learn and improve their ICT skills.
He noted that since the use of ICT had become part of human development, government was providing such facilities to enable citizens without any knowledge in ICT to acquire it.
“We are constructing these facilities to offer people who do not have the chance or encounter with ICT to have the opportunity to learn so that they can also become part of the global world.”
Dr. Boamah urged the people and students in the communities to make good use of the facilities for research and other beneficial purposes.
He expressed immense gratitude to the chiefs and traditional authorities of the respective communities for willingly releasing land for the project.
The Municipal Chief Executives for New Juabeng South, Ga South and La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assemblies expressed their gratitude to Government for bringing the Enhanced Community Information Centres to their communities and assured the Hon. Minister that they would ensure that the facilities were well maintained and put to maximum use.
